I also offer an engaging and informative session for young people on perimenopause and menopause, designed to complement and enhance the RSHE curriculum. This session can be delivered in the classroom, during year group assemblies, or as part of well-being programmes in colleges and universities.
The training provides young people with a basic, age-appropriate understanding of menopause and perimenopause, including the different stages, symptoms and what individuals may experience.
Despite affecting half the population, menopause education is still widely overlooked, leaving many people unprepared and uncertain about what to expect. Providing this knowledge early is vital. By educating our young people, we can challenge the stigma surrounding menopause, build empathy and awareness and create a more supportive environment for those experiencing it. It also ensures that young people understand what may happen to their parents, family members and eventually themselves later in life.
For many of us, menopause was never discussed or taught in school. By bringing this conversation into education now, we can equip the next generation with the knowledge, understanding and confidence that so many people previously lacked and empower the next generation.
